Mr. Bean his exclusive Mercedes 500E for sale
Atkinson is the current registered keeper of this rare & last in the long line of hand-built 'banker's hot-rods' by Mercedes-Benz.
Built to compete with the E34 M5, the 500E project was based on the W124 E-class. Conversion of the W124 chassis into 500E was done by hand. Each car took over eighteen days to complete. During production, 500E were transported across Stuttgart between the Mercedes and Porsche factories. Both companies shared key aspects of the design, development, modification, and production of 500E.
It's believed Mercedes-Benz lost money on every 500E produced. Given the 18-day production cycle, the back and forth between factories, and all the hand craftsmanship, it’s easy to see why the car was a not-for-profit project. For Mercedes-Benz, 500E was more about making a statement.
Considered the ultimate 1990's Q-car. This particular 500E is undoubtedly the most famous example of them all, regularly written about in the worlds most famous Car magazine and sharing garage space with Atkinson's collection including [twice re-built] 3 million pound McLaren F1. A petrol-heads dream!
